Description: On TV, the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has succeeded by blending elements of workplace comedy with over-the-top musical numbers. Now, on the web, Interns is looking to accomplish a similar feat. Created by Seek First ProductionsInterns will follow a group of underlings who must handle the affairs of the failing TV network at which they work.

The Interns Kickstarter page describes the show as a blend of Scrubs, 30 Rock, and Glee. After reading about the concept and watching some clips, it is those later two sitcoms that hold clear influence over Interns. From 30 Rock, the Seek First team has borrowed an entertainment industry setting, a penchant for cutaway gags, and a generally absurdist brand of humor. Glee, on the other hand, is the obvious inspiration for the cheery, upbeat musical numbers that will be interspersed throughout the show.

Despite drawing from some of their favorite shows, the Seek First team has plenty of big ideas of their own. They share their plans in their Interns pitch video:

Creator Bio: Seek First Productions is based in Nashville. Its previous partners, according to its website, include YouTube and AwesomenessTV.

Best Perk: At the $15 level, backers will receive a copy of the Interns soundtrack. Music will be the show’s lifeblood, and its soundtrack, which will be stocked with local Nashville bands, will be a worthwhile buy.

Why You Should Fund It: With a comedic setup we’ve seen before and overt pulls from popular shows, Interns at first seems like a somewhat derivative work. If you watch some of the clips its creators have made available to potential backers, however, you’ll see the amount of creativity inherent in the production. Take, for example, this musical number: the choreography is engaging, the colors pop of the screen, and the music is pleasant and charm. Interns seems like it will be a show that is hard not to like; you can help it get the funding it needs.
