Vimeo Funds A Summer Camp To Foster Young Filmmakers

Vimeo is out to show that its support for artful filmmaking extends to creators of all ages. The digital video platform has provided funding for the OMG Cameras Everywhere camp, which gives children between the ages of 10 and 13 the chance to get some experience behind the lens of a camera.

OMG Cameras Everywhere is run by OMG Everywhere, a nonprofit organization founded by a group of music video professionals. The OMG summer sessions, now in their sixth year, provide an arts education for attendees, who get to work alongside established creators. The sessions, which take place in both New York and Los Angeles, have always been free for campers; thanks to Vimeo’s support, they’ll stay that way.

As part of its partnership with OMG Cameras Everywhere, Vimeo will send some of its top creators to serve as OMG filmmakers. Participants include Warren Fu, who has directed music videos for Daft Punk and The Strokes, and DANIELS, the duo behind the new film Swiss Army Man (and recent guests on Vimeo’s official podcast.)

“The community [OMG Everywhere Co-Founder Isaac Ravishankara] and the OMG team have built for kids over these last few years is just incredible, especially at a time when our public schools are underfunded and lacking much needed art programs,” said Vimeo General Manager Mike Weissman in a press release. “While Vimeo has volunteered in past sessions, we’re excited to be getting more deeply involved this year — it’s just awesome to see these insanely talented (and busy) filmmakers donating their time to educate and inspire the filmmakers of tomorrow.”

Applications for OMG Cameras Everywhere’s 2016 sessions are currently open on the program’s website.
