Anna Akana, Canon Team Up For Anti-Bullying And Suicide Prevention Campaign

Camera brand Canon is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its EOS Rebel Camera — a popular model used by many YouTubers — by naming creator Anna Akana as the latest face of its ‘Rebel With A Cause’ promotional initiative. Akana follows professional daredevil Nik Wallenda and famed producer Swizz Beatz in being featured in the campaign, which “follows modern day rebels who challenge convention in their own unique way, capturing their causes through the eye of a Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR camera,” the company says.

Akana will be featured in a video, debuting in September, that speaks to anti-bullying and suicide prevention — a cause that is extremely personal as Akana’s sister, a victim of bullying, committed suicide at age 13. “The cause I’m advocating is one that hits home for me,” she said in a statement, “and I’m very passionate about creating awareness and effecting change however I can.”

In their respective videos, which can be viewed on the campaign’s website, Wallenda visited an old age home and helped senior citizens check items off their bucket lists — like riding a race car and flying in a fighter plane — while Swizz Beatz projected images of artwork by unknown artists onto a museum in New York City to help give them the recognition that they deserved (see below).
