Description: On YouTube, viewers can turn to creators like FunForLouis or Casey Neistat if they want to live vicariously through another person’s travels. Within the Internet’s globetrotting community, however, one thing is clear: It’s male-dominated. There are only a few female travel creators, and the biggest names in the scene are men.

A Girl’s Guide to Backpacking is hoping to change that. Host Ava Klein is looking to head out on a series of backpacking trips, and as she does, she plans to record her adventures, thus providing important tips for travelers (both male and female) who are looking to backpack their way around the globe and fund their trips with tight budgets. The team behind Girl’s Guide are filmmaking students, and they are committed to creating a series that is both fun to watch and informative.

“You can only learn so much from a blog post, and that mainly is the only type of information available for young women looking to set off on their own travel adventures,” reads the projects Indiegogo page. “If we can help make it easier for even one person to leave behind their hometown and see the world then we’ve achieved our goal!”

Creator Bio: The six people involved in the production of Girl’s Guide hail from six different countries: The US, the UK, Israel, Norway, China, and Ireland.

Best Perk: Anyone who contributes at least £20 will receive a postcard from Klein’s first destination, Copenpagen. Given the cost of living in Denmark, that’s not such a bad deal.

Why You Should Fund It: In presenting her pitch to potential contributors, Klein makes a very salient point: Many blogs and outlets discourage women from traveling alone, but more and more audacious female travelers are heading out “on their own terms,” and they deserve to have a voice they can turn to during their travels. The Girl’s Guide team is hoping to break into the world of travel journalism, which is currently dominated by men, and provide a new perspective that is currently missing. If you think that noble goal is worth pursuing, consider Girl’s Guide.
