Netflix Is Turning Sophia Amoruso’s ‘#GirlBoss’ Autobiography Into a Comedy Series

Aspiring #GirlBosses, rejoice.

Streaming giant Netflix has ordered to series a comedy based on the rags-to-riches story of Sophia Amoruso, who spun her eBay shop into the multimillion dollar fashion retailer now known as Nasty Gal.

In 2014, Amoruso wrote a book about her journey entitled #GirlBoss, on which the series will be based, according to Variety. Kay Cannon, who wrote Pitch Perfect, will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the forthcoming series alongside the actress Charlize TheronThis is Netflix’s second collaboration with Theron to date; it picked up Mindhunter, a serial killer-themed drama, last December.

While Nasty Gal is renowned for its bold fashions and Amoruso revered for her entrepreneurial prowess, the company has recently fallen on hard times. Nasty Gal cut 10 percent of its staff earlier this month in a move that CEO Sheree Waterson called a “strategic restructuring.”
