Description: Since its launch in September 2014, the Kinda Funny channel has entertained its viewers and listeners with videos and podcasts that dissect, comment on, and crack wise about nerd culture. Now, with its latest project, Kinda Funny is exploring new territory. It is raising money on Patreon for Kinda Funny: The Animated Series, which will turn its on-screen personalities into colorful cartoons.

The animated adaptation of the Kinda Funny universe will be written by Nick Scarpino, one of the channel’s co-founders. Scarpino’s scripts will place the Kinda Funny guys into all sorts of goofy situations that will allow their respective comedic styles to flourish. The first episode, for example, takes place at a high school gym, where a decision during a dodgeball game causes Colin Moriarty‘s analytical qualities to stand out.

After sharing the pilot, Moriarty appealed to Kinda Funny’s Patreon patrons. “Did you watch it?” he asked. “Did you like it? It’s pretty cool, right? Well, thing is, we want to do more of these. In fact, we want to do a whole season. Longer episodes, funnier stories, and a really ridiculous arc that Nick has already plotted.”

Creator Bio: The four co-founders of Kinda Funny–Moriarty, Scarpino, Tim Gettys, and Greg Miller–are all veterans of the video game industry. They met while working together at IGN and now run Kinda Funny full-time.

Best Perk: Backers who contribute $21 will be entered into a raffle, with the winners revealed during an upcoming Twitch live stream. Prizes include “a PlayStation Vita, exclusive merch, and Kevin.”

Why You Should Fund It: Through its array of podcasts, movie reviews, love and sex vlogs, and occasional unboxing videos, Kinda Funny has established itself as a go-to hub for quality content with a nerdy twist. The channel’s decision to expand to scripted content is ambitious, but judging from the animated series’ pilot, the individual personalities of the Kinda Funny team members will translate well to cartoon characters. For their fans, the animated series will be a real treat, and the quick growth of their Patreon push demonstrates that. Kinda Funny is already pretty close to its $75,000 goal–you can help put them over the top.
