BuzzFeed Names Frank Cooper III To Chief Marketing, Creative Officer Roles

BuzzFeed has a new leader in its ranks. The media publisher has appointed Frank Cooper III as the company’s new Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Creative Officer.

Cooper will be in charge of overseeing BuzzFeed’s entire global business and brand. He will work alongside the company’s leadership team to conduct market research, drive revenue, develop brand partnerships, and oversee marketing. Cooper will also lead BuzzFeed’s creative team and its branded content initiatives with the company’s advertising partners. The new CMO/COO will report to BuzzFeed President Greg Coleman and work out of the company’s New York office starting in late June 2015.

Cooper arrives at BuzzFeed with over 30 years of marketing industry experience. Previously, he was the CMO of Global Consumer Engagement for PepsiCo. At that brand, Cooper was a proponent of YouTube advertising and was a key factor in Pepsi establishing its own in-house content studio called The Creators League. Before his position at Pepsi, Cooper held marketing leadership positions at AOL and Def Jam Records.

“Throughout my career, I’ve been obsessed with the convergence of four things: culture, brand marketing, data and technology,” explained Cooper. “There’s only one company today that sits at the intersection of all those things, which is why this role at BuzzFeed was irresistible to me,” said Cooper in a release. “With [CEO] Jonah [Peretti]’s vision and Greg’s world-class business acumen, the opportunity could have not been more clear. I can’t wait to get started.”

“Our company is evolving from a growing U.S. website to a global media company with massive scale,” added Coleman. “That transition, communicating the effectiveness of our advertising product, the marriage of data and branded content, and the task of building an international brand could only be handled by one of the best in the business. We couldn’t be more thrilled Frank Cooper has joined us to take on that exciting challenge.”

BuzzFeed claims 200 million unique views per month from around the globe. The company’s video content alone drives 1 billion monthly views.
