Description: Chicago will serve as the setting for a new addition to the abundant collection of zombie fiction on the Internet. Creator Sam Haines is seeking funds for They Wake Up, which imagines a world in which the undead are close to overwhelming humanity.

On the They Wake Up Indiegogo page, Haines explains that his series has been in development for “over 2 years.” With the funds he and his team hope to raise, they can begin to produce their first season of post-apocalyptic thrills. The cast and crew are set; as the campaign page puts it, “All we need now is you!”

Specific plot details about the series are pretty thin, but it promises to have a spooky ambiance befitting its zombie theme. In lieu of a pitch video, Haines has provided a teaser for his series:

Creator Bio: Haines, fittingly, is based in Chicago, where he has attended DePaul University’s Theatre School. On his Twitter profile, he explains he “may or may not be Laura Linney.” Hmm.

Best Perk: For $75, contributors can get their names hidden in the show as Easter Eggs. That’s a good way to get people to watch the screen very closely.

Why You Should Fund It: It’s hard to draw too many conclusions about They Wake Up based only on its vague teaser trailer, but the series does seem to be particularly dedicated to establishing its mood. The series looks like it will serve up an enticing combination of gloomy visuals, thrilling storytelling, and, of course, intricate zombie makeup. It’s the kind of project that fosters a lot of curiosity, and in this case, Haines and his team only need to raise $4,000 to satisfy our curious minds. They have a few more days to get there.
