Netflix’s ‘Between’ Shows Off Trailer One Week Before Debut

Netflix continues to crank out trailers for the original series that will define its 2015 summer season. After sharing a preview for The Wachowskis’ upcoming sci-fi thriller Sense8 and offering a series trailer for the smash hit prison dramedy Orange Is The New Black, Netflix has now dropped a trailer for Between, a thriller that will air its first episode on May 21st.

Between, which stars former iCarly actress Jennette McCurdy in its top-billed role, centers on the once-idyllic town of Pretty Lake, where a mysterious illness has wiped out everyone over the age of 21. That setup, as you can imagine, is the setup for a series that looks to be filled with a fair bit of angst. The trailer also reveals a smattering of action sequences as the residents of Pretty Lake fight for survival.

The most notable aspect of Between is its release schedule. Unlike Netflix’s other original programs, which have premiered their new seasons all at once, the new thriller will use a more traditional, TV-style release schedule, with new episodes each week for six weeks. While that format will allow Netflix to gather some useful viewership data, it is also a necessity due to Between’s status as a co-production between Netflix and Canadian broadcaster City. As new episodes arrive online for American audiences, they will air on terrestrial TV for Canadian viewers.

While American Netflix users will be able to stream Between as soon as it debuts on May 21st, Canadian users of the streaming video platform will have to wait until 2016, when Between will become available on Netflix’s north-of-the-border service.
