Epic Meal Time’s Harley Morenstein Partners With Schick To Shave Off His Beard

Harley Morenstein rose to digital fame by making over-the-top, meat-based culinary creations in Epic Meal Timeand his signature beard has become one of his defining traits. So when the YouTube star finally decided to shave, it came as little surprise that he went above and beyond with a grand removal celebration, thanks to a partnership with razor company Schick.

Morenstein, who boasts over 140,000 subscribers on his individual YouTube channel, posted a video called “Happy Harley’s Beard Retirement.” In the clip, the Canadian YouTuber explains how, while his beard became part of his brand, “it’s time for Brand Harley to become Brand New.” Morenstein also explains he doesn’t think of his shave in terms of getting rid of his beard, but “more like the world is getting a face.”

In an interview with New Media Rockstars (NMR), Morenstein noted one of the reasons he shaved off his beard was because now that it was socially “cool” to have a beard, he wanted to be different. “Personally I like to zig when people zag and a lot of people have been zagging, [so] it’s nice to zig,” Morenstein explained.

But that reason wasn’t the only impetus for Morenstein to get rid of his famous facial hair. In addition, he said a director friend of his wanted to offer him a role in an upcoming project, with the caveat that Morenstein shave his beard. The Epic Meal Time star said that was good enough of a reason, and he started asking around to see if anyone could recommend a neat way to remove his beard.

“I remember when I was growing the beard, the thought of ‘would I ever shave it off, is there an opportunity out there’ and Schick came in with this huge campaign,” Morenstein told NMR. “They’re working with a couple of other YouTubers as well, so I hopped on to it.”

Morenstein’s beard was six and a half inches long before removal, and he still has most of it in a plastic bag. The YouTube star isn’t sure yet what he’ll use his beard for, but he has one idea: “Maybe I’ll make paint brushes out of the hair and do some beard painting.” Yes, please.
