Description: Move over, hot tubs–coffee makers are the hip, new time machines. A magical kitchen appliance drives the plot of Time Baristas, which is currently seeking support on Indiegogo in order to fund its second season.

Time Baristas centers on Evan (Marcus Haccius) and Ryan (Iain LaCourt), a pair of roommates who manage to break and repair their coffee machine in such a way that it becomes a time travel device. Despite this seemingly silly premise, Time Baristas is actually a fairly serious time travel story, with some dead bodies and mysterious characters providing a high level of intrigue and suspense.

Like Back to the FutureTime Baristas‘ creators are hoping to turn their series into a trilogy, and for the second installment, they hope to take their show to the Old West, where the protagonists were marooned at the end of season one. “This time around,” reads the campaign, “the creators are applying all the skills they learned during the first production (as well as some new equipment) and doubling down for what will surely be an outstanding second season.”

Creator Bio: Time Baristas is the most significant project creators Alex Young and Sean O’Neill have undertaken thus far.

Best Perk: For $100, you can receive the entire second season of Time Baristas on a USB drive that is also a slap bracelet. Then, all you need to do is invent your own time machine so you can go back to 1989 and be the coolest person in the world.

Why You Should Fund It: Since Time Baristas is looking the fund its second season, its creators can offer the entire first season as evidence of their show’s worth. The 10-episode season, which earned some props at LA WebFest is a well-executed time travel story with plenty of interesting supporting figures surrounding the central characters. The theme song is also undeniably catchy.

The technical aspects of Time Baristas are extremely impressive when you consider the series’ shoestring budget. All ten episodes of season one were filmed on $5,000 CAD, which is less than $4,000 USD. With double the budget, Young and O’Neill will be able to create an even bigger, sharper production. For that reason, their campaign is worth checking out.
