Shout! Factory Launches Free Streaming Service Shout! Factory TV

Shout! Factory is bringing some of pop culture’s biggest classics and cult titles to the internet. The home video entertainment company, known for distributing DVDs of TV shows like Freaks & Geeks and Power Rangers, has created an ad-supported streaming service dubbed Shout! Factory TV.

Shout! Factory TV launches with over 1,000 hours of free streaming titles. The platform boasts a varied library of titles, including Mystery Science Theater 3000, Father Knows Best, Dennis the Menace, The Weird Al Show, and a collection of Steve Martin stand-up specials. StreamDaily also reports Shout! Factory TV will produce some original content; Weekly Shout Out!, for example, will take a look at new releases on the streaming platform from a comedic angle. Ultimately, Shout! Factory TV plans to distribute over 2,500 hours of movies and TV episodes.

Shout! Factory founders Richard Foos, Garson Foos, and Bob Emmer told StreamDaily the reason for creating Shout! Factory TV stemmed from the fact that larger distribution companies (i.e. Netflix and Amazon) were losing interest in licensing the home video company’s library of content.

“They’re going bigger and broader all the time, and putting more money into their originals, and it’s leaving a hole for library and niche content, some really great fan and critics-favorite type of stuff that is now not available online,” Garson Foos said. “And that’s really our sweet spot.”

Foos, Foos, and Emmer said Shout! Factory TV uses Hulu’s video player for desktop viewing, Zype for mobile, and adRise for OTT devices like Roku. The streaming service also relies on these respective companies’ ad sales teams to help monetize Shout! Factory TV’s programming.

“That allows us to focus on what we do best, which is content acquisition, programming and promotion,” explained Shout! Factory VP of Digital Gene Pao. “Shows like Mystery Science Theater have a dedicated fan base already, so it’s just a matter of letting them know that its available for free on Shout Factory TV, and hopefully cross-sell them on other programming we offer.”

You can access Shout! Factory TV library by visiting the streaming platform’s website via your computer, mobile, tablet, or connected TV. The classic pop culture streaming platform also has an app available for Roku devices.
