The Chive Launches Online Video Hub ‘TheBOMB’

The Chive has decided to branch out beyond its typical lineup of funny images and occasionally risqué photos. The entertainment website known for instigating several internet hoaxes back in 2007 has launched its own online video hub, dubbed The Bomb.

A Chive blog post describes the new video endeavor as “a one-stop shop where you can find all the most hilarious, entertaining, compelling and provocative videos blowing up any given day.” A selection of 50 videos is hand-picked daily from across the web by an editorial curation team and published on The Bomb.

Site visitors have the ability to submit their own videos for consideration, as well as “bomb” (i.e. watch) a video by clicking on the bomb-shaped play button. Out of the 50 daily videos, the ones that receive the most views, shares, and “bomb” presses will be put into the “hot” or “trending” categories.

The Chive explains that, though it tends to put a few videos on its site every day, it passes up many good clips in order to maintain its reputation as a go-to destination for photo and GIF-centric content. The Bomb, therefore, is a logical complement to the visual nature of the site. The Chive is hoping its new video hub will eliminate the need for users to search the internet on their own in order to find the most viral videos every day.

Other media companies have also adopted a similar video hub strategy. In mid-2014, Condé Nast Entertainment debuted The Scene, a video site featuring clips from CNE’s intellectual properties, content partners, and occasional exclusive partnerships (like the one the media company struck with Mamrie Hart and Grace Helbig’s #HeyUSA web series). Additionally, Time, Inc. finally debuted its long-awaited The Daily Cut video destination earlier this month.

You can visit The Chive’s new site over at thebomb.com. While you’re there, feel free to bomb some of the videos you think are awesome.
