Pitbull Courts PewDiePie On YouTube To Help Promote New Year’s Bash

Mr. Worldwide aka Pitbull is doing his best to promote his upcoming New Year’s Eve Revolution show on Fox to online video audiences. And what better way to reach the YouTube masses than appropriating PewDiePie and trying to tap into some of the Swedish new media star’s subscriber base that now numbers upwards of 33 million.

The one-minute video leverages PewDiePie’s visage by placing Pitbull into a Grand Theft Auto-esque game called Pitbull Dale! In it, the savvy editors at Endemol Beyond (Pitbull’s YouTube Multi-Channel Network of Record) take footage from a variety of PewDiePie videos and make it look as if the emotive gamer must work to navigate the Latin singer through all his parties, engagements, travelling, and women so he can arrive in Miami in time to perform for the New Year’s Eve bash. The video also features some classic 8-bit visual effects and (of course) PewDiePie’s goofy style of video game commentary as he “plays” as Pitbull.

Mr. Worldwide is no stranger to the digital realm. Though the international star is most well-known for his music and live performances, he partnered with multi-channel network Endemol Beyond to handle his digital initiatives. He recently released two new web series with the MCN: One about his backup dancers, called The Most Bad Ones, and another about the male lifestyle, called Gentlemen’s Code. Pitbull even featured advice from YouTube beauty vlogger Kandee Johnson in the Code episode about proper grooming and hygiene, and had Viners Brittany Furlan and Simone Shepherd discuss men’s style on the second episode of the show.

A Let’s Play video featuring footage from PewDiePie seems like a logical addition to Mr. Worldwide’s growing roster of digital marketing initiatives. It seems to have worked, too. Felix Kjellberg, the real-life twentysomething behind PewDiePie, gave Pitbull a shoutout on twitter following the video’s release:

Does this mean some of PewDiePie’s Bro Army will tune into Fox’s New Year’s Eve show? Who knows, but it was worth a shot and seems to have gained Pitbull some online video cred in the process. Make sure to watch the video game-inspired promotional video, and then tune in to Fox on Wednesday, December 31, at 8 PM EST to check out Pitbull’s New Year’s Eve Revolution.
