Smosh Games Helps Pick 2014’s Best Games On Wired’s New ‘Game|Life’ Series

Smosh Games is helping out another channel with a new video game-focused series. The Defy Media-operated YouTube channel, which has 5.3 million subscribers, got together with Condé Nast Entertainment’s WIRED channel to bring online video viewers a few episodes of a series called Game|Life.

The episodes are part of a larger initiative by WIRED to create the editorial-style Game|Life series, which features Chris Kohler, a long-time editor at the publication. The first collaboration video, called “Best Games of 2014,” features Kohler and Smosh Games’ Mari, Jovenshire, Sohinki, and Lasercorn (the latter three were known as ClevverGames before merging with SMOSH Games in 2012). The five gamers discuss their favorite indie and AAA video games from the previous year and add them, in no particular order, to a “holiday gift guide.” They also give nods to some honorable mentions like The Last of Us Remastered and Destiny.

While WIRED plans to work with many different gaming creators, the company’s Director of YouTube Programming Peter Furia said Smosh seemed like a logical first pick.

We thought Smosh Games would be a lot of fun to work with, given their comedic personalities and their obsession with all types of games,” he said. “It turned out to be a really fun collaboration, but we also got to see a more thoughtful side of SMOSH Games (than their usual hilarious craziness) through these debate style reviews.” In addition to the “Best Games” video, the collaborators also released a “Biggest Gaming News of 2014” clip for the Game|Life series.

The presence of Smosh Games will likely help boost WIRED’s video viewership due to the gaming channel’s massive success over the years. Only three months after it launched, for example, the Smosh Games channel became (up until that point) the fastest ever to reach one million subscribers. Since then, the channel has jumped past 5 million subscribers, collaborated with international multi-channel networks, and continued to deliver the comedic gaming videos its audience adores.

According to Furia, viewers can expect even more collaborations from WIRED and Smosh Games in the months to come (like an upcoming one-on-one debate about the best video game of all time).
