NBC Universal Launches Fitness-Based Subscription Service Radius

NBC Universal has a new online video initiative that will encourage you to get up from the couch, not sit on it. The network giant has launched a new fitness-based, video-on-demand subscription service dubbed Radius.

The service will provide lifestyle and workout programming developed by fitness gurus such as Basheerah Ahmad, Nicky Holender, Keoni Hudoba, Alex Isaly, and Natalie Uhling in a technological environment NBC likens to a “virtual trainer,” capable of creating a customized workout experience for every user. To that end, the service’s programming will cover a range of exercise and fitness topics (like strength training and high-intensity workouts) of varying lengths suited for both beginner and workout experts alike. Radius subscribers will be able to stay motivated by tracking their progress and earning Radius Achievements.

“Radius marks an exciting evolution in the industry as we make premium fitness accessible to anyone, anywhere, anytime by leveraging our media platforms, technology, and partnerships,” said project lead Nick Lehman, President of Digital at NBCUniversal, in the release.  “With fitness at the epicenter of today’s pop culture, now is the perfect time to introduce a new media brand that can capture and drive the explosion of innovation in the fitness space.”

Radius’s programming will be developed by NBC’s own lifestyle production unit LX.TV in conjunction with Dragonfly Productions, which specializes in fitness programs. Radius will continually add a range of topics, experts, and digital shows to allow its users a full spectrum of workout and lifestyle routines to help them meet their new fitness goals. Additionally, the SVOD service has partnered exclusively with workout apparel brand Under Armour to produce original content, feature the brand’s gear within Radius’ programming, and offer Under Armour’s products for purchase via an ecommerce platform.

Available for $9.99 a month, Radius is accessible through a few different platforms. Comcast users will be able to sign up for Radius via Xfinity and access content through Xfinity on Demand (and soon all Xfinity TV GO app platforms). Radius subscribers can also check out its programming on NBC Sports Network every weekday from 6AM to 9AM EST.

If you want a more digital experience, Radius’s content will be available on RadiusFitness.com for you to access 24/7. You can also download the Radius Fitness app for your iPhone or iPad in the iTunes store.
