While YouTube is filled with gamers and beauty gurus galore, there’s a portion of its creators who are dedicated to something just as addicting: food. Many of YouTube’s most popular faces spend all their time in the kitchen, whipping up some tasty (but not always nutritious) treats.

But how did these cooks become so famous on YouTube? Some chefs, such as Gordon RamsayAlton Brown, and Jamie Oliver, got started on traditional television, but quickly realized bringing their cooking smarts over to YouTube would help them expand their reach to new markets. Other “cooks” simply decided to break the rules, have fun, and upload their culinary experiments to the online video site. A perfect example is Hannah Hart of My Drunk Kitchen, who now has a best-selling book in stores and is making the rounds on mainstream cooking shows because of her inebriated cooking antics.
