YouTube Networks Team Up As Maker Studios Strikes Deal With MiTu

Maker Studios recently became the YouTube network with the most unique viewers in the United States, but it is also looking to expand its reach among international audiences. In order to increase its presence within the Hispanic video community, Maker has partnered with MiTu, the multi-channel network that focuses on bilingual content from Hispanic creators.

The deal, which was announced by MiTu and Maker early on Tuesday, will combine the former network’s roster of creative talent with the latter network’s Culver City-based team for a collection of “culturally relevant” programs. While the deal will include all sorts of original shows, statements from both companies indicate branded content will be central to the deal. “Teaming up with MiTu allows us to meet the demands of so many of our brand partners who want to connect with today’s young generation of Latinos,” said Jason Krebs, Maker’s Head of Sales, “as well as provide this service to new advertising partners.”

Maker’s network claims 6.5 billion monthly views and more than 450 million total subscribers. As for MiTu, its creative roster totals more than 1,300 channels, which collectively count 55 million subscribers and bring in 470 million views each month. Some of the network’s best-known Spanish-language creators include CifraClub, craftingeek, and recent Streamy Award winner EnchufeTV.

The Maker deal comes three months after MiTu raised a $10 million funding round led by Upfront Ventures. Upfront (formerly known as GRP Partners)  was also an initial investor in Maker, which has since been sold to Disney for a base price of $500 million.

The two networks did not announce any timetables for particular releases.
