Halfway around the world, there is a group of YouTubers who are teaming up for a unique new venture. The creators of Eatyourkimchi and Talk To Me In Korean have announced You Are Here Cafe, a coffee shop that will tie into their respective YouTube channels.
You Are Here is located in the Hongdae area of Seoul, and it is a collaboration between two of Korea’s most popular YouTube channels. Eatyourkimchi is the joint effort of two Canadians who have lived in Korea since 2008 and have vlogged about their experiences, while Talk To Me In Korean teaches viewers how to speak its titular language. The most interest interesting part of You Are Here is its function as an extension of its creators’ YouTube channels. The cafe will provide patrons with the same sort of travel tips they can find on Eatyourkimchi, while a classroom section of the cafe will house some of Talk To Me In Korean’s lessons. From the sound of it, You Are Here is the closest thing South Korea has to its own YouTube Creator Space.
You Are Here is also safe haven for outsiders who visit Korea. “[Talk To Me In Korean host] Hyunwoo and crew are teaching the outside world how to speak Korean. The Eatyourkimchi Crew are in many ways showing you different parts and aspects of Korea, to the outside world as well,” explains a blog post on the Eatyourkimchi website. “It’s a middle ground, in some ways, an access point into Korea. You Are Here is that part of your journey’s map.”
