Minecraft is the most popular video game on YouTube, and there are plenty of channels entirely dedicated to the blocky sandbox game. Out of all those channels, one of the most self-confident offerings belongs to Ryan McNulty. The Orlando-based YouTuber makes videos on his xRpMx13 channel, works alongside the BroadbandTV network, and calls himself “The Incredibly Good Looking Gamer.” He also just reached a million subscribers, so we asked him some questions about the life of a Minecraft-based YouTuber.
TF: How does it feel to have one million subscribers? What do you have to say to your fans?

Ryan McNulty: It’s something I never could have imagined happening to me, it’s almost unreal! I have the utmost respect for all of the YouTubers who have reached this milestone because to be honest, they deserve it! It’s great to see my hard work finally pay off.
To all of my fans who have supported me throughout the years I want to say a gigantic thank you, although it doesn’t even come close to cutting it. I get a lot of fan mail saying that I have saved people’s lives with my videos, or changed them in positive ways, and it makes me feel great. They gave me the confidence to try new things, the support to push through hardships, and a happiness that can’t even be put into words. I am extremely grateful and seriously love them all more than I can explain, I wish I could hug every single one of them…. but a million hugs would take a long time!
TF: How long have you been playing Minecraft and what is your favorite part of the game?
RM: I have been playing Minecraft for over two and a half years. My favorite part of the game is the ability to just jump in and let my crazy mind just wander and do anything I want! I can just hang out or I can build things and explore, really anything I want and that makes it amazing.
TF: Have you considered bringing other games onto your YouTube channel?
RM: Absolutely! I love playing all games and that’s how all of this started and knowing that my fans will love any content that I put out really drives me to make epic videos for other games and not limit myself to just Minecraft.
TF: Is it challenging to stay connected to the Minecraft YouTube community without living in LA?
RM: Not at all, a lot of people get the notion that if you aren’t living in LA you aren’t doing something right, which is completely false. Although I do travel to LA and other places a lot, as long as I have Skype, I can connect with all my friends who I record with and get all my work done, from the comfort of my own home, with Cooper, my dog.
TF: With so many Minecraft channels on YouTube, what makes yours worth following?
RM: YouTube is saturated with so many YouTubers and new and upcoming channels that it’s sometimes hard to compete. I think what really gives my channel a different edge is that fact that I’m not “acting” in my commentary, while others may. I think that makes it more authentic and enjoyable for me to record.
TF: What advice do you have for YouTubers who are looking to forge a closer relationship with their fans?
RM: Definitely get a P.O. Box for fan mail, which is always great to get! Also, stay connected with your fans on social media!
TF: What sort of charity efforts have you spearheaded, and why is charity important to you?
RM: I have donated personally and raised over 20k for Children’s Dream Fund, a charity based on granting children who have life threatening illnesses their biggest dreams, whether it be a Disney cruise with their family or meeting their favorite superstar. The reason I like this charity so much is the fact that I know exactly what I’m putting my money towards, unlike some other charities. I also do charity work on the side but that’s more personal, and sometimes doing things without the whole world knowing is more satisfying.
RM: What’s on the horizon? Any interesting plans for your channel?
TF: I really want to get into other things that aren’t YouTube related such as acting or something musical. YouTube has allowed me the platform to gain an audience who support methrough everything I have done. For my channel just expect bigger and better things! I can’t give away all my surprises 😉
