Anna Akana Tries Her Hand At Comedy In Newest Short Film

Here at Tubefilter, we’re big fans of Anna Akana. The actor/director/producer/vlogger/generally talented YouTuber has released several short films since the start of the year, and they’ll all worth watching. Akana has now created her fourth short, and unlike her first three, it takes a comedic tone rather than a dark, psychological one.

The short film is titled Pregnapocalypse, and as with all of Akana’s shorts, it is led by an ensemble of young female actresses. This time, every woman in the world has suddenly become nine months pregnant, and four roommates must figure out why it has happened–all while delivering Akana’s baby. As with Akana’s other shorts, it’s best to say as little as possible. Instead, it’s worth taking two-and-a-half minutes to watch the madness unfold:

As she explains in a comment, Akana was inspired to create Pregnapocalypse after listening to input from her fans. “So many requests for a comedic short film led to this,” she said. As a result, she has departed a fair bit from her usual style, though the elements of horror filmmaking that marked her first three short films of 2014 are still intact.

Akana–who claims 842,000 subscribers and 62 million views on her YouTube channel–has pledged to create 12 short films over the course of 2014, and it seems as if she will mostly return to the dramatic niche she has carved out for herself. Pregnapocalypse isn’t quite as sharp as some of Akana’s other shorts, but it’s nice to see her switch things up.
