May The Fourth Be With Corey Vidal, Wheezy Waiter At YouTube Space LA

Star Wars Day takes place on May 4th, and the YouTube community is ready to celebrate. Four different YouTube channels have shot Star Wars-themed videos at YouTube Space LA, with Lucasfilm chipping in by providing a set.

The four videos were shot on a “cantina” set built by Nerdist for last year’s Course of the Force charity drive. After that event concluded, Nerdist donated the set to Lucasfilm, which has in turn gave it back to the YouTube community by temporarily setting it up at YouTube Space LA.

The videos are rolling out across four days during the week before May the 4th. The first one to see release was a lightsaber duel between YouTubers Corey Vidal and Craig “Wheezy Waiter” Benzine (with Shay Carl as the ornery bartender). It’s the fourth duel between Vidal and Benzine; the previous three can also be found on Vidal’s ApprenticeA channel.

The second video in the series is a cantina edition of BoredShortsTV‘s Kid Snippets series. The other two will come from CollegeHumor and YouTube’s own YouTube Nation channel.

The YouTube Space’s participation in Star Wars Day is a testament to the site’s increased interest in “tentpole” events. During awards season, a replica Oscars stage popped up at the Playa Vista facility, and the cantina set provides a similar service for YouTube creators who want to take advantage of the interest generated by Star Wars each May 4th.

The videos also hit YouTube just days after the cast of the upcoming Star Wars reboot was announced, allowing them to take advantage of even more viewer interest. The force is strong with these videos.
