Tubefilter: How does it feel to have one million subscribers on YouTube?

Fleur DeForce: Amazing! I can’t even begin to picture what a million people would look like in the flesh, so it’s quite hard to get your head around really, but it’s definitely a huge milestone in my YouTube career!

TF: There are many different beauty creators on YouTube. What qualities do you feel make you unique?

FDF: I like to think that I’m approachable and relatable, and those are two qualities that are an important part of my video content. I simply talk about things that I love, and tips and tricks I’ve learnt along the way. I think if you try to be something you’re not then your audience can see through that.

TF: What do you think is the single most important fashion tip you have shared with your audience?

FDF: Probably to feel comfortable in your outfits and just to dress for yourself. I always think if you try too hard to follow a trend, it often doesn’t ‘work’ and you end up looking (and feeling!) awkward.

TF: What made you decide to launch your own online store?

FDF: It was just a natural step really! I’ve always been into selling things since I was a little girl (I used to sell my old toys and books on the internet to buy new ones!)

TF: How do you decide which brands to partner with?

FDF: It’s not really a decision, I just know which brands I like, and naturally talk about anyway. If a brand approaches me that doesn’t ‘fit’ into that, then it’s clear that it’s not a natural collaboration.

TF: When you make a video, how much are you thinking about informing your viewers and how much are you thinking about entertainment value?

FDF: To be very honest, I just think about what I want to say, sit down and film it! I never script my videos, or try to be something I’m not.

TF: What is your favorite thing about the British YouTube community?

FDF: The great thing about the UK Youtube community in comparison to the US is the fact that, because the UK is so much smaller, you can see all of your friends a lot more because they aren’t hours and hours away!

TF: What was it like being on Project Runway All-Stars?

FDF: An absolute dream come true! Surprisingly, it was so easy and fun to film. I was nervous that it would be partially scripted, or staged, or that they would try to create drama, but it was such fun to be part of. All of the production team were so nice and friendly, and I loved my designer too! It was a dream come true from start to finish.

TF: What’s next for Fleur DeForce? Any new series on the horizon?

FDF: I want to work on moving my content into new, exciting platforms over the next year. There are a couple of collaborations on the horizon that I’m really excited about too–watch this space!
