VEVO Scored 54.5 Billion Views In 2013

2013 was another banner year for VEVO. The largest multi-channel network on the Internet has released its annual Music Video Viewership Report, revealing that network viewers tallied 54.5 billion video views in 2013.

That figure represents a 33% increase over 2012, as VEVO’s traffic continues to accelerate with each passing month. In September 2013, VEVO reported that its users had delivered 44.4 billion views over the past 12 months, 10 billion fewer than the 2013’s ultimate 12 month total. In December alone, 165 million people watched content across the VEVO network.

Of course, several hundred million of those September to December views came from Miley Cyrus. Since its release in September, Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ video has received 548 million views, making it VEVO’s most viewed of the year. According to the Viewership Report, ‘Wrecking Ball’ broke VEVO records by scoring the most views in one day (19.3 million) and getting to 100 million views in fewer days (six) than any other video in the network’s history.

The most interesting tidbit from VEVO’s report? ‘Wrecking Ball’ didn’t even crack the top five in terms of shares. In fact, none of Miley’s videos made that list. Instead, the most shared VEVO video of the year was P!nk’s ‘Just Give Me A Reason’.

An early February release date definitely helped ‘Just Give Me A Reason’ rack up shares in 2013. At the same time, two songs released later in 2013–‘Blurred Lines‘ and ‘Royals‘–both received more shares than ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘We Can’t Stop’. I guess many viewers who witnessed Miley’s attention-seeking videos weren’t so eager to inflict the same fate upon their friends.
