Must-Watch Music Videos: Kwabs’ New Video ‘Wrong Or Right’ Is Right

[Editor’s Note: Two major trends have emerged in the recent history of new media: 1) Music videos are the new music and 2) YouTube is the new MTV. London vocalist Kwabs just dropped the visuals for ‘Wrong Or Right’, the lead single off his upcoming EP due out later this year.

The video, already my favorite of the year, is contemplative and beautiful. It features a team of street performers dancing in concert to an incredible SOHN-produced track. The clip focuses on one main dancer, but the beauty is in the choreography of the group as a whole. The final product provides viewers with a very powerful and breathtaking first video for the new release.

As the video progresses, additional dancers are added, mirroring the build up to the climactic vocal crescendo of the song. Each dancer adds a unique style to the intricate ballet as he or she is introduced, ultimately forming a gang that dances in sync throughout the deserted streets of London. I found myself staring at the clip intently, waiting for the next move on time with the beat.

It would be easy to compare the staging and look to something like West Side Story. Maybe it’s more apt to say there is a distinct Warriors-esque feel to the cinematography, though I doubt either of those New York City gangs can dance half as well as these Londoners. Either way, this video has its own unique feel that sets it apart from whatever the immediate influences appear to be.  Powered by the impressive vocal display in the song, the visual is good enough to stand alone and will ensure that you go out to snag the new EP, Wrong or Right, as soon as it’s released.
