Snoop Lion’s 16-Bit Music Video Is Tailor Made For Machinima

Your mileage may vary on the quality of Snoop Dogg‘s music since his changed his name to Snoop Lion and switched to a more reggae-fueled style. What’s clear, however, is that his latest music video is pretty neat. Snoop has teamed up with Major Lazer, Machinima, and animator Mykola Dosenko for an SNES-tinted video based around his song ‘Get Away‘.

Both of the song’s performers are well-versed in the art of cool YouTube music videos. Snoop has greatly expanded his presence on the site through his Maker Studios-partnered channel, WestFestTV, while Major Lazer has released a number of intricate music videos featuring Hollywood actors. Their combined effort is squarely aimed at the gaming crowd, who will appreciate the Pokemon battle between the two stars and their subsequent shootout against a pair of thumping speakers.

The video has drawn a mixed reaction from the MachinimaETC audience; detractors have taken issue with the song’s simple structure, while the video itself has drawn praise. As it turns out, when dealing with the YouTube crowd, invoking old-school video games is super effective.
