Netflix Receives 6 Golden Globe Nominations

Netflix received 14 Emmy nominations in 2013. Now the pay-per-month premium streaming video service can add some more awards accolades to its resume.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association – with the assistance of Aziz Ansari, Zoe Saldana, and Olivia Wilde – announced on the morning of Thursday, December 13, 2013 the names and titles of the nominees in the 25 film and TV categories for the 71st Annual Golden Globes. Netflix collected six of them.

The new player in preim entertainment space’s premier title House of Cards picked up four noms, including nods for Best Television Drama Series, Best Performance By An Actress In A Television Drama for Robin Wright, Best Performance By An Actor In A Television Drama for Kevin Spacey, and Best Performance By An Actor In a Supporting Role for Corey Stoll.

Wright will be competing against fellow Netflix actor Taylor Schilling for her channeling of a drug-mule-turned-prison-inmate in Orange Is The New Black. And Jason Bateman received a bid for Best Performance By An Actor In A Television Comedy Or Musical for his portrayal of Michael Bluth in the Netflix-only reprise of Arrested Development.

Netflix’s six nominations are tied with Starz and Showtime in second place the title of Network/Channel/Platform With The Most Noms. HBO came in first with nine.

The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards is set to air January 12, 2014, and will be hosted once again, by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. You can check out the full list of nominees here.
