French TV Network Canal Plus Coming To YouTube With 20 Channels

One of the most prominent French TV networks is set to make a splash on YouTube. The Canal Plus Group, which runs a few of the France’s biggest cable channels, will brings its properties to YouTube across an array of hubs.

The Canal Plus Group is best known for the titular Canal+ channel, which score a 3% audience share in September 2013. Canal+’s flagship series, such as Le Grand Journal, will highlight the Group’s YouTube network. The primetime talk show recently aired its thousandth episode, so it must be very informative (so long as you understand French).

Other properties under the Group’s umbrella include i>Télé and D8. By syndicating these channels on YouTube, Canal Plus will reach an previously untapped audience. Christophe Muller, director of YouTube partnerships for the Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East region, noted that the YouTube network will “contribute to extending the reach of French audiovisual culture.”

The new channels will debut in December, and Canal Plus–which has previously dabbled in the online video industry by investing in Maker Studios–will support them with a new platform titled Canalfactory and aimed at emerging creators. “YouTube is a unique space not only for today’s talent to find expression and be creative, but also for tomorrow’s talent, which we want to support and bring to a wider audience in a dedicated area, Canalfactory,” said Fabienne Fourquet, Canal Plus group’s director of new content.
