Yahoo To Roll Out Red Carpet As Exclusive Online Platform Of The Emmys

This September, TV’s brightest stars will have a secondary home on Yahoo. The eighth ranked online video platform in the US (according to Comscore) has secured a partnership with the Academy of Television Arts And Sciences through which it will become the exclusive digital content provider for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Thanks to the partnership, Yahoo will be able to provide a live streaming show live from the red carpet, behind-the-scenes footage, and post-Emmy highlights. Essentially, its Emmys presence will be similar to the official Oscars channel on YouTube: plenty of peripheral content, but no live stream for the main show itself. In the weeks following the show, Yahoo will also use its access to run a web series titled An Evening With, which will feature the creators and stars of hit shows like Game of Thrones, Revenge, and The Walking Dead.

“Yahoo! has always been dedicated to providing the best awards show coverage, but this takes us to a whole new level,” said Rich Cusick, Yahoo! VP and head of Entertainment. “Thanks to our partnership with the Television Academy, we’ll be closer to the action, have more exclusives, and be able to offer the best online experience for Emmys fans.”

The demand for online content related to awards shows is undeniable. The Oscars channel has more than 150,000 subscribers and almost 200 million views; videos from the most recent ceremony have alone brought in several million hits. Yahoo’s Emmys coverage will have a chance to make a similar impact when the Emmys are handed out on September 22nd.
