Animal Planet Upping Web Presence With Several Web Series

There’s nothing the Internet loves more than animals (particular those who dish out advice), so it comes as no surprise that Animal Planet–one of the largest TV channels dedicated to the fauna of the world–is upping its web presence.

Animal Planet has already launched one web companion series and will soon launch another four, each one paired with a different TV program. The only currently active one, Shorty’s Top Dog, follows Shorty Rossi, the host of Pit Boss, as he searches for a new faithful companion. Though the content is different from Pit Boss (which follows Rossi as he runs his Pit Bull rescue shelter), the general tone is the same. Animal Planet knows how much people like excitable dogs.

The upcoming companions will focus on Tanked, My Cat From Hell, River Monsters, and Call of the Wildman. Their releases will be well spaced out, with one more debuting in March, two in April, and one in May.

Aside from focusing on one of the Internet’s favorite subjects, Animal Planet is also an ideal provider for web companions thanks to its partnership with Discovery; the communications company distributes Animal Planet and has previously reached into the online space through its acquisition of Revision3, and Animal Planet’s online offerings are reminiscent of the web-oriented content we’ve seen from the Discovery Channel in the past few months.

Real talk: You’re on the Internet right now, which means you probably are a fan of dogs. If this video isn’t holding you over, you should give Shorty’s Top Dog a shot.
