The World Now Watches 4 Billion Hours of YouTube Per Month

Google had its Q4 2012 earnings call on Tuesday afternoon. The company solidly beat forecasts, generating $14.42 billion in revenue during the last three months of 2012, a 36% increase over its fourth quarter 2011 revenues. But that wasn’t the only impressive statistic with at least 10-digits that the internet and advertising juggernaut announced during its presentation of its earnings report.

Google’s Senior VP and Chief Business Officer, Nikesh Arora told reporters YouTube viewers around the globe are now watching at least 4 billion hours worth of the site’s videos per month. That’s up at least 1 billion hours of worldwide video consumption per month since YouTube last publicly reported the statistic back in May 2012. At that rate of growth, the world is on pace to watch five billion hours of YouTube per month by September 2013 and 10 billion hours per month sometime around March 2015.

Arora also noted YouTube’s top 100 advertisers spent an average of 50% more on their YouTube budges in 2012 than they did in 2011, attributing at least a portion of that increase to YouTube’s TrueView ad unit.
