Partner Up! YouTube NextUp’s New Theme Is Creator Collaborations

It’s only been a few short weeks since the last YouTube NextUp competition concluded, but it looks like the Creator Support team is wasting no time in firing up another contest. YouTube has announced its newest competition, and aspiring creators will have to team up and work together if they wish to be one of the 30 winners.

Previous NextUp themes have championed the individual, seeking out the Internet’s best chefs, comedians, and educators. This time around, each submission will have to be shared between at least two creators. That criterion made me curious about what was stopping me from making a blank YouTube channel and calling myself a ‘creator’, so I took at the contest’s terms. Turns out each creator must have at least 10,000 subscribers, so as with YouTube’s On The Rise competition, the goal here seems to be the promotion of underappreciated channels rather than the discovery of unknown ones.

Of course, collaborations are common among YouTube’s biggest stars. Sometimes, as with a lot of the content on YOMYOMF, these partnerships happen between friends, but this becoming rarer as studios bring their stars together for network-assisted collaborations. No matter how great YouTube minds are brought together, it’s more important that some of the best videos on the ‘Tube feature more than one successful YouTuber, so I’m personally excited about the prospects of the new NextUp competition.

Contestants have until December 27th to submit to the competition. Once all the entries are in, YouTube will select 30 winners, all of whom will receive production grants, marketing funds, and a two week ‘Creator Camp’ at the brand new YouTube Space LA. If you’re having trouble with the math, that’s a total of at least sixty winners, so your odds have never been better. Go grab your buddy before it’s too late. I call dibs on Neil Patrick Harris!
