’30 Rock,’ Jack Donaghy Win PGA Web Series Award

The 4,750 some-odd members of the Producers Guild of America celebrated their 23rd Annual Producers Guild of America Awards over the weekend, and for the first time in the Guild’s 60+ year history, those members bestowed honors upon a web series.

The only online only category in the ceremony – with nominees consisting of both original web series and companion and/or derivative programming of television properties – was one of four new categories the PGA added to its awards ceremony this year (the others were Sports Programs, News Programs, and Children’s Programs). And for its inaugural entry into the genre of online video, PGA members selected what those familiar with the industry will see as more or less obvious and/or predictable nominees.

30 Rock’s companion program Jack Donaghy, Executive Superhero took home top honors (which isn’t too surprising given the traditional media makeup of the Producers Guild). But all the nominated shows a big congrats, as does the PGA for making moves to recognize the excellence in the web series world.
