Reddit Curates Hulu for a Day

YouTube isn’t the only online video destination capable of making the nerdy cool kids sitting at the alt pop culture table in the lunchroom of the internet smile. Hulu can do that, too!

Last week the premium on demand streaming video service (or, as Hulu Blog Assistant Editor Ben Collins calls it, “the website your girlfriend goes to when her yoga class conflicts with The Bachelorette”) solicited the the Reddit community to edit the Hulu homepage for a day. Aside from the geoblocking potshots, Reddit users of Conde Naste Digital’s social news website responded with 1900 comments. The videos with the top 10 votes that made the Hulu homepage last Friday include, but are not limited to selections from Community, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Firefly, and Arrested Development.

Carl Sagan’s Cosmos was the Reddit favorite with over 5,200 upvotes and 2,070 karma points. If you haven’t yet seen this “history of the scientific enterprise,” nor experienced the “soaring spiritual high of its central revelation: our oneness with the universe,” here it is to watch.

Congrats to Hulu for reaching out to collaborate with an entity outside the confines of its usual major media companies. Hopefully whoever ends up buying the site will continue with the practice.
