Boxee is expanding overseas, fresh off of closing a $16.5 million venture round last week, by saying it will open up shop in Europe as well as roll out the payment platform expected to become the platform’s central business model. “Whatever transaction we process, we will take 20 percent,” said Boxee’s Andrew Kippen on the payments. CBS was announced as the first major partner to sign on board the new system. [PaidContent]

Trailer Trash - HuluTrailer Trash officially launched this week on Hulu, marking Lionsgate’s first original web series effort. Already the raunchy animated comedy is holding its own amongst the animation lineup on Hulu, cligning to a top 10 most watched spot in the not surprisingly competitive category led by the network’s overall top dog, Family Guy. The series might be hampered a little by its TV-MA rating, requiring viewers to log in to verify that they are over 18. But creator Todd Goldman’s twisted parody of redneck antics isn’t scaring away Hulu’s big name brands. I spotted Bank of America and Nissan pre-roll and logos when I went to watch. YouTube’s lip-syncing breakout Keenan Cahill, who has been known for some A-list drop-ins (like 50-Cent), has broken 1 million views for his first branded web video today (see below). Jennifer Aniston may have helped of course. The company is Smart Water and Aniston plays the celeb-learning-the-internet bit quite well, sporting everything from puppies to dancing babies and the actual Double Rainbow guy. Verdict? This one worked—it’s the #1 Most Viewed video today in the entire world—though viral might not be the right word since Aniston is pretty sick to begin with. [smartwater on YouTube]

Our friends at VideoNuze announced a one-day online video advertising conference called ELEVATE set for June 7th in New York City. “ELEVATE isn’t about singing the praises of online video advertising; it’s about bringing together the industry for a candid, strategic discussion of what’s working and what’s not, the critical challenges that remain and how they should be addressed, the larger context of technology enablers driving the industry forward, and what is still unknown,” wrote VN’s Will Richmond about his vision for the event which will co-incide with Internet Week 2011. Revision3 added another movie-buff series to its growing lineup of filme themed web series like The Totally Rad Show, AV Club and Film Riot. The latest addition, Film State, is actually hosted and created by Film Riot’s Ryan Connolly, and promises “a fun and laid-back, yet fast paced look, at the latest movie trailers, rumors and news.” The weekly series releases every Tuesday with 10-12 minute episodes. “Hopefully Film State will bring that, plus our sense of humor, to the fellow movie lovers out there,” said Connolly. YouTube continues to hire some Hollywood vets, with the addition of Paramount’s former digital distribution head Alex Carloss this week. Carloss will work with Google’s head of TV and Film, Robert Kyncl, who was brought in from Netflix last fall. Carloss may in fact be focused on the recently reported news that YouTube is beginning to seriously court traditional celebrities to build their own channels and luring them with some handsome up front payments. Hulu has picked up indie comedy series Workshop for its second season. Creators Nate Golon and Kimberly Legg shifted to a half-hour format, something Hulu is growing more fond of lately with web originals, making six 22-minute episodes for the new season. The comedic inside look at the struggles of the prototypical ‘LA actor’ is set to debut Season 2 later this month. [Workshop on YouTube]

Video Game Reunion, Atom’s ambitious parody of our favorite 80’s video game stars, debuted today on Atom and its cousin (MTV Networks-owned) GameTrailers.com. The first three episodes are out now (see Ep. 1-1 below), with new ones out every week. [Video Game Reunion]
