Old people do the darndest things. And whether it’s host SNL, make sketch comedy ripe with sexual innuendo, riff on the Jersey Shore, tell dirty jokes, kvetch about pop culture, or review tech gadgets in an Onion-style newscast, it tends to be entertaining.
Old People News: The Tech Report is one of the latest iterations of the internet exploiting octogenarians to comedic effect. Dolly Beck (Lynn Rogers) and Charlie Megler (Arthur Anderson) broadcast live from a Floridian nursing home’s quiet room, reporting on all the new gadgets, gizmos, and whatchamacallits hip with the kids these days.
The series is a spin off of Old People News, a Kevin Maher production and Atom.com original that debuted on the Comedy Central-owned online destination in January of 2009. The Tech Report will span eight episodes, released over the the next two weeks, all riddled with mispronounced brand names, archaic technological references, and ill-informed consumer critiques.
If you’re looking for Black Friday deals or still have a few items on your Christmas shopping list, you should probably go to one of those bargain, group-buying websites. But if you’re a technophile in need of smile, give these old people a shot. If that doesn’t work, check out an online video series highlighting humans on the other end of the age spectrum.
