NewTeeVee Helps Viewers Drop Cable With ‘Cord Cutters’
Cord Cutters

This week emerging technology news and trends blog NewTeeVee launched its first ever original web series, Cord Cutters, a Revision3-style hosted news program that offers, as NewTeeVee Co-Editor Liz Shannon Miller put it, “a look every week at the exciting new gadgets and important companies emerging to help you replace your cable subscription, as well as a spotlight on the great content available with or without Comcast or Time Warner Cable.”

It’s about time. As a cord cutter myself (ahem, since I graduated college), I have been waiting to learn more from others who have traversed the brave new world beyond cable. For NewTeeVee, it was a natural progression. “It seemed the time was right,” said Chris Albrecht, former Co-Editor of NewTeeVee and now head of video content at GigaOM TV, which produces the series out of its San Francisco offices. Cord Cutters was a logical evolution from NewTeeVee’s extensive coverage of Netflix, Hulu, Roku, AppleTV and other technologies that enable this new way of consuming video entertainment.

Hotsed by NewTeeVee experts Janko Roettgers, Ryan Lawler, and Liz Shannon Miller, Cord Cutters approaches the topic from three angles: reviewing new technology and products from the perspective of their usefulness in cutting the cord (as Roettgers does with the AppleTV in the first episode); featuring cord cutters in the wild who are encouraged submit photos and descriptions of their setups and tips for a better cable-less entertainment experience; and recommending exciting shows that are not available via traditional television (as Miller does with White Collar Brawler).

GigaOM TV has enjoyed success with video programming since the old The GigaOM Show on Revision3. Green Overdrive, a part of CleanTech News, launched this summer with reviews of eco-friendly vehicles from the 1916 Owen Magnetic to the upcoming Tesla 2.5 Roadster.

Cord Cutters comes out every Tuesday on NewTeeVee.
