This year’s Independent Television Festival announced its official selections today, with 22 selections in the Web Series category, 6 in the Web + Mobile category, and 24 in the Pilots category.
For the first time ever, web series outnumber television pilot selections in the festival. Even amongst the TV pilots, many of them are actually re-packaged web series like Octane Pistols of Fury, Ogden: The Inappropriate Yoga Guy, Palisades Pool Party, and We Are With the Band. “For a festival originally slated as a television festival, this is a pretty interesting divergence,” festival director AJ Tesler told us.
Several of the web series selections you’ll recognize are Streamy Awards nominated web series Anyone But Me, GOLD, Odd Jobs, and The Temp Life, and other familiar web series The Fall of Kaden, The Super Man, SOLO – The Series and A Good Knight’s Quest. “Some familiar faces. Some new ones,” commented Tesler; new ones to look out for are UCB Comedy’s Illuminati Brothers, Current TV’s Good Cop / Blank Cop, and the independently produced We Are With The Band Show. RE: Belman’s post: Why are they screening two year old web shows? Shouldn’t they have looked for new ones?
Answer: Yes, we love discovering new shows, but we ultimately only want to screen the best shows. Most of the judges and industry that screen & judge our shows have never seen or even heard of any of them which is always interesting to us, living and working as we do in the Web TV community. ITVFest is about showcasing new talent, but more importantly it’s about providing opportunity for discovery from the Hollywood industry. Even if your show has made its way around the internet, there’s always a little bit of added credibility when you have also been recognized by a reputable festival and that can go a long way in getting your show to the next level.
Psst. “Suck And Moan” is in the “web series” category…not in the “pilot” category. Just lettin’ you know…
And we couldn’t be more excited to be included in ITVFest with all of those strong shows!! Lookin’ forward to a great fest!!
We are super excited to have Scottish Ninjas be among the official animation selections. There are a lot of great looking pilots and web series in this festival. Btw, thanks for the direct link to our video page, tubefilter! We’s loves us the traffic! :-)
