'Grey's Anatomy' Births 'On Call' Companion Web Series

Grey's AnatomyAnother companion web series coming out of a major TV network today as ABC launches its Grey’s Anatomy companion Seattle Grace: On Call. It premiered tonight 10:00 PM ET, immediately following the latest episode of Grey’s, which featured promo for the new sidekick.

It’s a faux documentary, set at Joe’s Emerald City Bar where seemingly all of the Seattle Grace surgeons frequent to booze it up and make bad decisions. A handful of the lesser known stars from the TV version will appear in the 4-minute episodes, like Joe the Bartender Steven W. Bailey and SG interns Brandon Scott and Gloria Garayua. Italian food brand Bertolli signed on as lead sponsor of the series.

“Our goal with the Web series is to expand the Grey’s universe by offering a unique perspective of the various happenings at Seattle Grace, while paralleling some of the same story lines seen on the show,” said Grey’s creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes to MediaPost.

Some of the character bios:

Joe the Bartender – Born and raised in Seattle, Joe is the owner of the Emerald City Bar and unofficial therapist/babysitter of Seattle Grace. When he’s not serving drinks to hyper-emotional doctors, he’s spending time with his boyfriend Walter and their beautiful twin babies. His favorite food is Spicy Buffalo Wings, which can be (conveniently) found at the Emerald City Bar in downtown Seattle. We’re open 10am til’ 2am, so stop on by. –Mention this ad and get a free shot.

Steve Mostow – A surgical resident at Seattle Grace, Steve is a newlywed expecting his first child with his wife Megan, whom he met during his intern year. When he’s not competing for surgeries at the hospital, you can find “The Pick-Up Sticks King,” as he is known to himself, hanging out at The Emerald City Bar. Steve looks forward to becoming a neurosurgeon and being called “Daddy.” PS: Hi Mom and Dad!

Megan Mostow – Megan, a soon-to-be Mom, is a former surgical resident who was recently (and WRONGFULLY) terminated from Seattle Grace hospital after its merger with Mercy West. Before she was UNFAIRLY fired from Seattle Grace (for being PREGNANT, nonetheless), her aspiration was to become a pediatric surgeon. However, with her dreams on hold, she’s decided to focus on her future child with the man who helped make that happen. She is also not very into writing about herself in the third person.

Pierce Halley – A Seattle native, Pierce was the president of his fraternity at Washington State University. Like Megan, Pierce was also a victim of the Seattle Grace—Mercy West merger. However, Pierce found life after the death of his job: by working in the morgue. Instead of seeing dead people, Pierce would much rather see his ex, Megan. And that is all I would like to write for this bio—make sure Mostow reads this.
