'Rocketboom' Premieres New NYC Host 'mememolly'

mememollyConfirming the news we broke last month that YouTube star mememolly will be the new host of long-running web series Rocketboom, today marked the release of the first episode with the jet setting host. Also coming on board as a NYC correspondent is Australian tech host Ella Morton.

Originally from Ottawa, Ontario before moving to London, mememolly developed quite a following on YouTube, particularly in the UK where her channel is #10 on the all-time most-subscribed list and boasts over 21 Million total views. The show’s producers, led by creator Andrew Baron, offered up a healthy $80,000 base salary plus $10,000 signing bonus in what we said could be the highest paid gig in web television. There still is no selection made for the LA-based host position.

It’s been a month since mememolly’s last YouTube video, and it’s expected that those will be less frequent while she focuses on Rocketboom. The debut video (above) introduces Molly, who we find out is “a right-handed vegetarian Scorpio.”

The series is being distributed by Sony Pictures Television via its Crackle site as well as YouTube, as part of a sizable distribution deal signed last fall.

Also worth checking out is an interim video done for Rocketboom by some Vancouver Film School students on the booming world of blogging in Iran:
