Brooklyn-based Waverly Films, the cleverly twisted folks behind Atom’s Streamy-nominated (and Webby winning) animated web series Stickman Exodus, have just had their latest pitch, The Fuzz, greenlit and funded by Atom and Comedy Central. Waverly’s Christopher Ford is creating the series slated to premiere later this year on Atom.com.
If you were a fan of Stickman Exodus’ ruthlessly wacky humor, rejoice: the new show, entitled The Fuzz, is about an upswing in crime – and the resulting collaboration between people and puppets in the police force. The show is currently approved for a five-episode online run, with plans to develop a half-hour pilot that could lead to on-air distribution via Comedy Central.

To those of you out there who didn’t catch last summer’s Stickman Exodus, which brings the sadistic doodlings of a bored high school kid to life as a band of stick figures encounter death, danger, and dismemberment in their search for the notebook’s Promised Page — there’s still time to catch up. Stickman Exodus spans six episodes, each about 5 minutes in length, so if you’re looking for a (decidedly NSFW) way to pass the next half hour, stop by their channel and check out the show. Suddenly, games of Hangman don’t seem quite so innocent.
My personal favorite episode is “Spanish Class“, where the stickpeople encounter a band of Spanish-speaking doodles and attempt to bridge the cultural gap and escape with their lives, but I can’t lie – the “VAGIZA” in Episode 1’s “Hangman” had me laughing uncontrollably for a minute or two. Odds are, you’ll be even more hyped for The Fuzz after seeing what they could do with a notebook and a pencil. Stickman netted just over 500,000 views for its six episodes, which is decently strong for typical Atom web series.
UPDATE: The creator of the series is Christopher Ford and has been corrected in the article. Previous version listed Brett Gelman and Jon Daly as creators of the new series, which is not accurate.
