There’s a video banner ad that’s been making the rounds lately for TV Land‘s website with the tagline, “More Than Classic TV,” encouraging broadband users to check out the site’s massive archive of classic, original, and behind the scenes content relating to the great old dusty television shows of yesteryear.
That said, yesterday’s launch of Sony’s Minisode Network on MySpace is kind of like “Less Than Classic TV.”
And not in a bad way. Actually, it’s pretty awesome. The condensed format (each “minisode” lasts only three minutes) really lends itself to the ridiculous premises of shows like TJ Hooker and Starsky & Hutch. Personally, I think it would have worked better if they had cut each one down to one minute and utilized a wacky voiceover, but this is still more fun than you would expect. So far, the other series include Sheena, Silver Spoons, VIP, Who’s the Boss?, What’s Happening!, Ricki Lake, Policewoman, The Partridge Family, The Facts of Life, Fantasy Island, Dilbert, Diff’rent Strokes, and legendary jigglefest Charlie’s Angels.
