Make Money off YouTube

Yesterday, Wallstrip, the vlog that made stocks fun, spilled the news to Variety that YouTube will soon begin putting commercials before videos.

That’s the bad news. But the good news is that you’re going to take home 50% of the profits.

There won’t be advertising in front of every video. With each upload, users will get the option to allow advertising or not allow advertising. If you choose to allow it, YouTube will split the profits with you 50/50. Alanis Morissette should’ve waited a few weeks before getting those five million views on her "My Humps" video.

To prevent monetary gain from copyright infringement with users who post appropriated content, the site will be releasing Claim Your Content, a new feature that will remove stolen material from the site for further investigation.

These two new components–which could be released as soon as next week–could not be bigger news for a site whose popularity has been based off both a lack of advertising and a surplus of user-submitted clips from TV.

But all in all, it’s pretty exciting for vloggers, who can now acquire cash without ever putting advertisements on their own sites. Hell, I might even make a Diet Coke and Menthos video now.
